What Are Dental Implants?
Implants are natural looking replacements for missing teeth. The implant itself is a post that attaches to your jawbone. This post provides an anchor for the placement of a crown, bridges or dentures.
We are experts in the placement of dental implants. Dental implants begin with a comprehensive oral evaluation to determine if you are a candidate for this procedure.
For more detailed information on the types of dental implants and how they can benefit you, please see the section entitled Dental Implants.
Do implants work as well as natural teeth?
Dental implants function significantly better than removable teeth, (e.g. traditional partial or complete dentures). Today’s advancements make implants function within 90% of the efficiency of natural teeth in terms of both bite and feel.
How long will an implant last?
Dental implants become fixed into the jaw bone. Though the life span of a dental implant will vary with each patient, many have remained in place for over 40 years. With good oral hygiene and regular maintenance cleaning appointments, dental implants should last a lifetime. In contrast, the average life span of a traditional fixed bridge is between 10-15 years.
What if I don’t have enough bone for an implant?
Nearly everyone has enough bone for an implant. However, if there is not enough bone, advancements in bone regeneration make it possible to now place implants in most cases. We offer many options to restore bone. If you have been told in the past "you are not a candidate for implants," come see us for an evaluation. You may be surprised.
How long will placement healing and restoration take?
The entire process usually takes from three to nine months depending on your treatment plan. In cases requiring bone grafting, it may take a little longer. This depends on the type and quantity of implants you need, along with the quality of bone in which the implants are placed.
What about my age?
Your overall health and desire to improve your quality of life are much more important than your chronological age. Our patients, who benefit from dental implants, range in age between 16 and 93!
How much do dental implants cost?
The cost of implants varies from patient to patient, depending on the complexity of each case. As a general rule, however, the investment can be expected to be within the range of anyone who can afford fixed bridgework. Often, the cost of insertion of an implant accounts for only a small percentage of the total cost for all the dental treatment required.
How soon is it possible to eat after receiving dental implants?
As soon as the final restoration has been placed, you can resume normal eating again. For the first two to three weeks after initial placement of the implant, a strict soft diet is necessary. As conditions vary per patient, different dietary instructions will be given in order to minimize stress on the implant until it has fully integrated into the bone.

However, there are few conditions that would keep someone from having implant treatment altogether.
